Junior doctors in West Bengal have announced their decision to continue their 'cease work' protest demanding justice for a colleague who was raped and murdered at RG Kar hospital. This decision comes in defiance of the Supreme Court's directive to resume duties by 5 pm on Tuesday.
The protesters are calling for the resignation of the state's health secretary and director of health education. They plan to hold a rally to Swasthya Bhavan, the health department headquarters, on Tuesday noon.
The body of the postgraduate trainee, found with injury marks in a seminar room, has sparked nationwide outrage. The Supreme Court, responding to the nearly month-long strike, has directed doctors to resume work or face adverse actions, while the state government assured no punitive measures would be taken against those returning to duty.
