A man who recently traveled from a country experiencing mpox transmission has tested positive for the disease, the Union Health Ministry reported on Monday. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the mpox virus of the West African clade-2 in the patient, classifying it as a travel-related infection.
The ministry clarified that this is an isolated case similar to the earlier 30 cases reported in India since July 2022. It is not part of the current public health emergency reported by WHO concerning clade 1 of mpox.
The patient, a young male, is isolated in a designated tertiary care facility. He remains clinically stable without systemic illness or comorbidities. Public health measures, including contact tracing and monitoring, are actively in place to contain the situation. The ministry assured that there's no indication of a widespread risk to the public.
