A 22-year-old woman in Odisha's Rayagada district gave birth to a baby girl while traveling on a moving bus, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The incident occurred just 30 minutes after the bus left Parlakhemundi around 5:30 pm on Wednesday. Arun Nayak, a co-passenger and doctor from Parlakhemundi Hospital, was seated behind the woman and assisted with the delivery, along with physiotherapist Sunita Mallick. Both assisted in safely delivering the baby near Reggada.

Following the birth, the bus staff ensured the mother and newborn were promptly transferred to Gunupur Hospital, located 50 km away. Hospital superintendent Ramesh Sahu stated that the mother and her baby, who weighs 2.2 kg, are in good health.
