Dr. M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS-Delhi, has expressed concerns over the evolving challenges in the country's medical education system. In an exclusive interview with PTI, Dr. Srinivas criticized medical students' over-reliance on online resources, colloquially referred to as 'Google mataji,' which he claims detracts from the invaluable experience of bedside learning.

'The focus on securing PG admissions has overshadowed the importance of learning directly from patients,' Dr. Srinivas said. He noted that AIIMS-Delhi, due to its unique position outside the purview of the National Medical Commission (NMC), has the flexibility to innovate teaching methods and curricula.

Dr. Srinivas also highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the medical field, especially in diagnostics and patient care. 'AI is immensely useful in early diagnosis and improving treatment quality,' he said, citing examples of AI applications in X-rays and CT scans. He further stressed the importance of media outreach in educating the public about lifestyle diseases and good health practices.
