The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has set up a committee to investigate the death of an infant allegedly during a planned power cut at a hospital in Old Delhi. The committee has been directed to submit an inquiry report within 10 days, as per the order issued by the MCD on Wednesday.

The panel is headed by the Director of Hospital Administration, Akshay Dharmarha, with additional DHA Rakesh Rao Gautam on board. The Mayor of Delhi, Shelly Oberoi, has called for a thorough inquiry to determine the cause of the infant's death, attributed to the lack of power backup during a scheduled shutdown at Kasturba Hospital.

Mayor Oberoi's directive came following a media report and social media claims stating that two newborns were delivered under torchlight due to the power cut, with one infant succumbing during the outage. The MCD has refuted allegations of deliveries under torchlight but has proceeded with the inquiry into the death.
