Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrapped up his three-day visit to Barak Valley, focusing on road and healthcare infrastructure improvements. His visit included a comprehensive review meeting with key stakeholders.
Sarma highlighted that motorable roads in Silchar and an elevated seven-kilometer road over the town are top priorities. Immediate work will begin on these projects, along with plans for underground utility wires.
On the healthcare front, the government is planning a new medical college in Hailakandi and a 1,500-bed hospital at SMCH in Silchar. Sarma also reviewed water supply schemes and addressed the region's sinking zone concerns. The visit ended with the inauguration of a 20-bed Cardiology ICU and a review of the ongoing 535-bed emergency building at SMCH. Sarma also attended the 150th anniversary of the District Bar Association, Cachar, acknowledging its role in legal transitions.
