Uganda has confirmed two additional cases of the mpox virus, bringing the country's total to four infections, the health ministry announced. The new cases involve the clade 1b strain, which has garnered international attention and concern.

The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak of this new mpox variant a public health emergency. Uganda first reported the disease's presence in the country on July 24, following lab tests on two patients at a hospital near the Democratic Republic of Congo border.

This week, the health ministry confirmed two more cases, one of whom is a truck driver, while the other patient's details remain undisclosed. Both patients are currently isolated in an Entebbe hospital.
