In a significant humanitarian move, India has committed to providing Ukraine with four advanced Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita & Maitri (BHISHM) cubes. These mobile hospitals are designed to offer critical emergency medical care, according to officials on Friday.
The initiative falls under Project Aarogya Maitri, a broader government program aimed at delivering essential medical supplies to developing nations as humanitarian aid. BHISHM cubes are equipped with necessary facilities and equipment, offering a rapid deployment solution for emergency medical care, officials noted.
This decision precedes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ukraine, a country mired in an ongoing conflict with Russia. BHISHM cubes are packed with essential medicines and equipment in 15-inch cubical boxes, organized by injury type and medical issues commonly encountered in wars or natural disasters. Capable of handling around 200 emergency cases, each cube supports basic surgeries and can generate its own power and oxygen for limited periods.
