Junior doctors at government hospitals nationwide continue their indefinite strike, disrupting essential services in reaction to the alleged rape and murder of a medic in Kolkata. The Supreme Court intervened, forming a 10-member National Task Force to ensure doctors' safety and urged striking doctors to return to work.
Despite the Supreme Court's involvement, healthcare services remain severely affected, notably in West Bengal, where the protests commenced. The Federation of Resident Doctors' Associations and the Federation of All India Medical Association vow to persist in their strike until concrete actions are taken regarding Clinical Practice Allowance (CPA).
The protests gained student support, sparking additional demonstrations focused on women's safety. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court criticized the West Bengal government for its handling of the case, directing the Central Bureau of Investigation to report on its progress and asking the state for an update on actions taken against vandals.
