Sweden Confirms First Case of Mpox Amid Global Public Health Emergency
Sweden confirmed its first case of mpox, a viral infection spread through close contact. The World Health Organization had declared mpox a global public health emergency following an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Swedish Health and Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forssmed reported the case as the more severe type, Clade I.

Sweden confirmed its first case of mpox, a viral infection spreading through close contact, on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, the World Health Organization declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years, following an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo that spread internationally.
Health and Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forssmed stated during a news conference that Sweden's confirmed case is of the more severe Clade I type.
