West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose condemned the vandalism at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday, labelling it a 'shame to civil society,' amid ongoing protests by junior doctors following an alleged rape-murder incident.
Around midnight, a group of 40 people entered the hospital, damaging the emergency department, nursing station, and medicine store. Nine individuals have been detained so far in connection with the vandalism.
The BJP criticized law enforcement for failing to protect the protesting doctors, escalating demands for army intervention if the state government fails to control the unrest. Healthcare services remain disrupted for seven days due to the ongoing cease-work by junior doctors.
