Medical services in government hospitals across Rajasthan were disrupted as resident doctors went on strike following the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee in Kolkata. The strike entered its second day on Wednesday, impacting non-essential services, though emergency services remained operational.
Dr. Manohar Siyol, president of the Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors, confirmed that the strike continues in several cities, including Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur. The resident doctors are demanding a transparent investigation, accountability from responsible authorities, compensation for the victim's family, and the implementation of workplace safety measures.
Despite the strike, senior doctors have been managing outpatient departments (OPDs) to maintain service continuity. The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association initially called for a nationwide strike but called it off after Union Health Minister J P Nadda accepted their demands. However, other medical associations vow to continue their protest until a central law ensuring the safety of medical personnel is enacted.
