The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has mandated Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and one of its doctors to remit Rs 65 lakh to a patient who endured a permanent brain injury during an angioplasty procedure in 2011.
The commission, which includes Justice Ram Surat Ram Maurya and Bharat Kumar Pandya, ruled on August 7 in favor of the plaintiff, who accused the hospital and its physician of medical negligence and delayed diagnosis.
The judgment emphasized the severe and continuous impact on the patient and his family, urging adequate compensation given the long-term care requirements.
