Heatstroke Crisis: 374 Deaths and Over 67,000 Cases Reported
Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel reported 374 deaths and 67,637 cases of suspected heatstroke between March 1 and July 27 in India. Uttar Pradesh was the worst affected, with substantial numbers also from Bihar and Odisha. The MoHFW has issued advisories to enhance preparedness and awareness.

Minister of State for Health Anupriya Patel disclosed in the Lok Sabha on Friday that a staggering 374 deaths and 67,637 suspected heatstroke cases were reported between March 1 and July 27.
According to data from the National Centre for Disease Control, Uttar Pradesh was the worst-affected state, recording 52 deaths, followed by Bihar with 37, and Odisha and Delhi with 26 and 25 deaths, respectively.
States and Union Territories have been submitting data on heatstroke cases and deaths through the Integrated Health Information Portal since 2023. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been issuing advisories early every March to improve awareness and preparedness.
