AIIMS, Delhi is set to introduce electric buses to enhance last-mile connectivity for patients, attendants, and caregivers from bus and rail transit points to key areas within the sprawling hospital campus.

Geared to address problems like long walks and costly auto-rickshaws, the e-buses will feature around 20 seats, air conditioning, and low floors for easy boarding, along with wheelchair accommodation if needed, according to a Tuesday office memorandum.

A patient app will provide real-time information on bus arrival times, ensuring an efficient and comfortable transit experience within AIIMS, said Dr. M Srinivas, Director of the premier hospital.
