Health Minister Dr. Shane Reti has announced the appointment of four experienced health leaders as regional Deputy Chief Executives at Health New Zealand. This move aims to restore local leadership and accountability to the health system, a shift from the previous administration’s approach which, according to Dr. Reti, resulted in excessive bureaucracy and detachment from frontline services.

Dr. Reti emphasized that the new regional Deputy Chief Executives will oversee budgets for regional hospital services and other health services, enabling better integration of hospital and community care. These leaders will have the authority to allocate resources effectively and work closely with frontline staff and communities to meet health targets.

The appointments are part of the Government's broader strategy to improve public services, particularly in the health sector. Dr. Reti highlighted that this initiative represents a significant step toward enhancing health care delivery and ensuring that New Zealanders receive the quality care they deserve.
