Dr. Atul Goel, Director-General of Health Services, emphasized the importance of investing healthcare resources in disease prevention rather than solely focusing on diagnostic and therapeutic options in a meeting held on Tuesday.

The hybrid meeting, chaired by Dr. Goel, gathered representatives from more than 27 esteemed health professional bodies. They agreed to adopt a Declaration of Health Promotion and explore measures to advocate for health promotion, as stated by the health ministry.

The primary agenda focused on advancing initiatives like promoting healthy diets, physical activity, and addressing key risk factors such as tobacco and alcohol use. Discussions included strategies to eliminate tobacco and alcohol use and the implementation of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act 2019.

Participants pledged support for public awareness campaigns, educational programs, and policy advocacy to minimize risk factors. Efforts by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare were commended, emphasizing a collaborative approach to safeguarding public health and enhancing citizen well-being.
