The Kerala government announced on Wednesday the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Nutraceuticals to explore and commercialise the state's untapped potential in this field.
According to the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the Centre will be set up in Thiruvananthapuram under the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (KDISC), Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), and Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC).
Land has been allocated at the Thiruvananthapuram Life Science Park, with immediate research and development activities to be conducted at temporary labs in the Institute of Advanced Virology. Nutraceuticals, derived from natural substances, are gaining acceptance for their health benefits beyond basic nutrition, significantly impacting conditions like diabetes, Alzheimer's, and heart diseases.
