Gas Leak in Maharashtra Chemical Factory Sparks Health Scare

Nine villagers in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra, complained of breathing difficulties and one was hospitalised following a gas leak at a chemical factory, a government official reported on Wednesday.

The gas leak occurred on Tuesday night at the Axcel Company's chemical unit in the Lote Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area, approximately 340km from Mumbai. A local factory inspector noted the incident.

Residents of Talarewadi village, including children and women, were affected and rushed to a hospital in Chiplun town. Eight were discharged after medical examination, while one remains hospitalised. An inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the leak and hold those responsible accountable.
