Medical experts are debunking the long-held advice against swimming right after eating. Dr. Matthew Badgett of the Cleveland Clinic states that recreational swimming post-meal is safe, as there's enough blood flow to muscles.
"The old warning does more harm than good," said Badgett, a former high school swimmer, who used to eat bananas and drink water pre-race. According to him, dehydration is a bigger issue.
However, caution is advised for those engaging in lap swims or rigorous exercise post-meal, and consuming alcohol before swimming is always risky due to poor coordination and judgment.
