Deadly Drone Attack Hits Tel Aviv Amid Escalating Regional Tensions
An Iranian-made drone struck central Tel Aviv, killing one and wounding four, in an attack claimed by Yemen's Houthi militia. This follows an Israeli operation in Lebanon and heightens fears of regional conflict. The drone model is believed to be an upgraded Samad-3 from Yemen, as tensions rise with Iranian proxies supporting Hamas.
An Iranian-made drone struck the centre of Tel Aviv early Friday, resulting in one death and four injuries, according to Israeli military and emergency services. The Yemen-based Houthi militia has claimed responsibility for the attack, which did not trigger air raid alarms.
The incident occurred shortly after the Israeli military announced the killing of a senior Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon. Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the chief spokesperson, indicated that the drone was an upgraded Iranian-made Samad-3 model, likely launched from Yemen.
The event adds to concerns of escalating regional tensions, as the Houthis and other Iranian-backed groups ally with Hamas. Increased air patrols have been implemented, but no new civil defence measures were ordered. The mayor of Tel Aviv stated the city is on heightened alert.
