In an effort to revolutionize the healthcare landscape of Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Tuesday that kidney transplants will soon be available at GBP Hospital and the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC).

Speaking at the inauguration of a Public Health Centre (PHC) in Kanchanbari, Unakoti district, Saha detailed his administration's plans to set up seven new super-speciality departments at both medical facilities. ''There has been a persistent demand for kidney transplants at GBP Hospital. Our doctors and paramedical staff have already undergone training in renal replacement therapy at a Manipur-based hospital. Patients are prepared for the surgical procedures, and we will begin transplants soon,'' he confirmed.

Saha also announced the appointment of six assistant professors with plans to hire an additional 18 professors and associate professors, further bolstering the institutions' capabilities. Currently, departments like nephrology, urology, cardiothoracic, and cardiovascular services are operational at the hospital. The Chief Minister revealed that he has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Health Minister JP Nadda to seek support for establishing an AIIMS-like institution in Tripura. He emphasized that the central government has sanctioned over Rs 500 crore for various healthcare initiatives, aiming to transform Tripura into a healthcare hub.
