Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday the launch of 35 new centres for free dialysis sessions across the state within the next two months. This will significantly expand access to the much-needed medical service.

During a press conference, Sarma highlighted the state's achievements in dialysis services, noting that since the first free dialysis centre opened in Nalbari in June 2019, the number of centres has grown to 41, spread across 33 districts through public-private partnerships. This has led to a substantial increase in the number of dialysis sessions—from 24,000 in the first year to 2,21,116 in 2023-24, aiding 5,347 patients.

In addition to expanding healthcare facilities, the Chief Minister addressed educational concerns, particularly the criticism surrounding the Siksha Setu App used by teachers for attendance. He announced a committee to evaluate the app and resolve the issues faced by educators. Furthermore, Sarma spoke about the recent marksheet scam at Gauhati University, indicating that the CID is investigating the software vulnerabilities that allowed tampering with marks.
