In Delhi, at least 45 deaths have been reported due to suspected heat-related illnesses, according to officials from Ram Manohar Lohia, Safdarjung, and LNJP hospitals.
Struggling under a blistering heatwave, the city received some respite on Thursday morning with light rain. Despite this, hospitals have seen a rise in casualties and patients suffering from heat stroke.
Dr. Ajay Chauhan, Professor of Medicine at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, stated that between May 27 and 9 am on June 19, the hospital saw 47 cases of heatstroke. Within the following 24 hours, 26 heatstroke patients were brought in. The hospital recorded 11 deaths due to suspected heatstroke within the initial period and seven such deaths in the subsequent 24 hours.
