Former Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president and Erode East MLA EVKS Elangovan has recovered and returned home from the hospital on Thursday, a press note from Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre said.

''EVKS Elangovan was admitted on 15.03.2023 in Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre with coronary artery disease and covid infection. He is stable and discharged now,'' the hospital's Medical Director Dr R B Sudagar Singh was quoted as saying in the release.

Elangovan took ill after returning from Delhi last month. On March 15, he was admitted to Ramachandra Hospital in Porur here. The 74-year-old Congress leader had taken oath as MLA on March 10 following his victory in the Erode East byelection held on February 27.

Elangovan was being treated in the ICU for both respiratory issues and for a covid infection, according to a press statement released by the hospital on March 20.

He recovered from the infection after having been put on artificial respiration, following which he released a video saying that he was recovering well and would return home soon.
