Matty Taylor joins Oxford United where he started his career

Matty Taylor has joined Oxford United where he started his career, the club announced on its official Twitter account. He has joined the club on a season-long loan. There is the option of a recall in the New Year as well. 

Matt was in the youth and academy sides at the U’s before making seven senior appearances before moving on to Didcot Town and North Leigh. He then moved up the leagues and made his name at Forest Green Rovers from where he got his chance at Bristol Rovers.

His goals helped the Pirates regain their Football League place and he remained a key part of the side as they won promotion to League 1. After yet another hat trick, this time against MK Dons, he completed a move across Bristol to join City in 2017.

Head Coach Karl Robinson said, “I think every fan knew a goalscorer was our top priority and Matty has an unbelievable record at this level and above. He maybe has a point to prove here which will make him even more determined to do well, but he is a top professional, he knows his game and we can't wait for him to get started.

"Our thanks to the people in charge at Bristol City for their help in getting this over the line, but the biggest thanks to Tiger and the Board for their backing once again in strengthening the team. Now we look forward to two big games this week where I am sure the Oxford fans will welcome Matty back with open arms.”

Matt now 29, was more than pleased to be coming back home to the U’s on a one-year-loan from City saying, “I grew up watching Oxford and loved being part of the club before. I still have family in Oxfordshire and so many friends here; it was unbelievable to walk back in today and see so many familiar faces. I could not be happier to be joining the club again and can’t wait to get started."

Matt's registration was completed ahead of the midday deadline to make him eligible for Tuesday night's home game against Burton Albion in Sky Bet League 1.
