There are also reports of a "loud blast" in the city, however, it is unclear if the sound is linked to the incident, according to a UK-based news platform Mirror.
On Twitter, there were reports of "massive explosion sounds".
Just heard what sounded like 3 massive explosion sounds round my way, everyone's looking around seeing if they can see owt, but nothing, strange.

The Royal Air Force has confirmed that QRA Typhoons had been launched to escort the flight and their supersonic speed might have been the reason for "explosion sounds".
Update: The threat has been declared hoax by an Air India official. The plane is back in the air on its way towards Newar.
