Power Grid Challenges in India's Renewable Energy Push
A high-level meeting between Union ministers will address challenges faced by renewable energy producers in India, focusing on grid curtailment and transmission infrastructure. With a target of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, discussions will also cover the deviation settlement mechanism and policies for future green energy projects.
In a pivotal move, Union ministers are set to deliberate on key challenges within India's renewable energy sector on Wednesday. The discussion will spotlight issues such as the curtailment of renewable electricity and the need for robust transmission networks vital for solar and wind energy growth.
Minister of New & Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, emphasized the significance of these challenges at the CII Business Summit, revealing plans to meet with Power Minister Manohar Lal. Their talks aim to address concerns faced by clean electricity producers nationwide, including the controversial deviation settlement mechanism.
Industry leaders like Girish Tanti and Rahul Munjal echoed the urgency for improved grid infrastructure and a long-term clean energy strategy, underscoring India's international standing as a formidable player in renewable energy. The nation added significant non-fossil capacity and met over half of its peak electricity demand with renewables, a testament to effective policy and industry dynamics.
