In a high-stakes operation in the Kerlapal area of Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, security forces have engaged in a fierce encounter with Naxal insurgents, officials reported on Saturday.
The operation, spearheaded by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was launched following credible intelligence suggesting Naxal presence in the area. The joint forces embarked on a search mission starting on March 28, with the confrontation ensuing early on the morning of March 29.
Security personnel are rigorously examining the encounter locale and the surrounding heavily forested region, though authorities have indicated a comprehensive report will be made available upon the operation's conclusion. Historically, Sukma remains one of the most Naxal-affected regions in Chhattisgarh's Bastar division, having borne the brunt of numerous violent incidents.
On the preceding Friday, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast injured a jawan in Narayanpur district, highlighting ongoing threats. Inspector General Sundarraj P confirmed the incident, noting that the wounded soldier receiving care at Narayanpur district hospital is in stable condition.
