On Friday, Telangana's Minister for Irrigation, Food & Civil Supplies, Uttam Kumar Reddy, made a significant announcement regarding the state's commitment to food security. Starting from Ugadi, the state government is set to provide free fine rice to 84% of its population, a move Reddy described as historic.

Reddy commended Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for her pivotal role in the introduction of the Food Security Act, stating, "It was our leader Sonia Gandhi who brought in the Food Security Act. It ensures that nobody in this country goes hungry." He acknowledged past shortcomings in the Public Distribution System, highlighting the inferior quality of rations often supplied to the poor.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the quality of food grains is being improved in Telangana. This initiative, beginning with Ugadi, forms part of a broader strategy to secure food access for the majority of the state's population. Reddy linked this step with Rahul Gandhi's vision of inclusive growth, emphasizing its importance for the vulnerable sections of society. Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLCs protested against the Congress government on Thursday over the farmers' issue, criticizing CM Revanth Reddy for alleged misleading promises.
