The Varanasi Municipal Corporation has decided to shut all meat shops citywide during the Navratri festival, an action supported by a combination of awareness campaigns and strict enforcement measures.

Municipal Commissioner Akshat Verma confirmed that preparations to enforce this decision are advancing, as part of the board-approved initiative aimed at respecting religious sentiments.

Similar actions are echoed in East Delhi, where BJP MLA Ravi Kant calls for similar closures to maintain religious sanctity during the festival. The proposal has also found support from Muslim clerics emphasizing interfaith respect.
