A protest led by Odisha Congress workers outside the state assembly spiraled into chaos on Thursday, as demonstrators violently clashed with police forces. Reportedly, party supporters broke through barricades, using sticks and chairs against police officers, and attempted to set a police vehicle ablaze.
According to Bhubaneswar ACP Narsingh Bhola, 19 officers faced injuries, four of whom sustained fractures. The incident has led to three cases being registered, and police are analyzing video footage to identify the instigators. Names of 40-45 main leaders are mentioned in the FIR, and action against those involved is impending.
This unrest was fueled by the suspension of 14 Congress MLAs from the Odisha Assembly over allegations of indiscipline. The demonstrators were pressing for an inquiry into crimes against women, demanding accountability from the current BJP-led state government.
