Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has sounded the alarm over what he describes as a worsening drug crisis among India's youth, accusing the government of turning a blind eye to the issue.
His assertions follow a meeting with doctors and influencers from Kerala, who expressed concern over increasing drug usage among young people in the region. Gandhi emphasized that this rising trend is contributing to a surge in crime, medical emergencies, and mental health problems.
Highlighting the broader national issue, Gandhi said that with 2.3 crore opioid users and almost 1 crore inhalant users, urgent action is needed from both the government and society. He called for enhanced awareness campaigns, more de-addiction centers, and addressing root causes like unemployment and societal pressures.
