India has seen a remarkable 47.5% rise in its fruit exports over the last five years, as highlighted in the Rajya Sabha by the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada. Free trade agreements with the UAE and Australia have significantly contributed to this growth.
The government ensures that exported fruits meet international quality standards and maintains minimal pesticide residues. Initiatives like developing post-harvest handling facilities and integrated cold chain networks are aiding in maintaining the quality and longevity of fruits.
India's expanded export strategy, including exploring new markets and participating in international trade fairs, has opened opportunities in more than 85 countries. The recent market entries include fresh bananas in Canada and pomegranate arils in Australia, USA, Serbia, and New Zealand.
