Pradeep Jena, a seasoned IAS officer and former chief secretary, has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC). The announcement came via a notification from the energy department, stating that his tenure will begin once he assumes office. The position had been unoccupied since November 2023, following the resignation of SC Mohapatra, who took on a role as chief adviser to the Chief Minister's Office.
Jena's career is marked by significant experience, notably his more than six-year service as a secretary in the energy department. His leadership qualities and familiarity with the state's energy sector are expected to guide the commission effectively. His latest appointment adds to his illustrious career prior to his anticipated retirement.
Despite his original retirement being slated for December 31, 2023, Jena's career was extended by six months due to upcoming general and assembly polls in Odisha. This extension allowed him to remain in public service, culminating in his new role at the OERC.
