Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has allocated a grant of Rs 25 crore and 44 lakh under the Desi Govansh Pariposhan Yojana, distributing it online to 560 cowsheds across the state. Covering three months, the initiative provides Rs 50 per cow per day to support the upkeep of indigenous cattle.
CM Fadnavis lauded the efforts of the Maharashtra Cow Service Commission, emphasizing that conserving indigenous breeds is critical for rural development. Animal Husbandry Minister Pankaja Munde also praised the commission, highlighting its mission to protect and promote local cattle breeds through the Goseva Aayog. The scheme seeks to address the financial challenges of raising low-productivity cows.
Commission Chairman Shekhar Mundada reported that the funding has been a crucial relief for many cowsheds, benefiting over 560 facilities. The initiative is particularly aimed at cowsheds registered under the Maharashtra Cow Service Commission, ensuring that ear-tagged livestock are subsidized at a rate of Rs 50 per day per cow. Institutions availing the subsidy must have significant experience in cattle management, housing at least 50 cows, and a nationalized bank account.
