In recent developments, Assam is spearheading National Highway projects in the Northeastern states with the highest number of ongoing initiatives and longest road lengths, costing a substantial Rs 39,239 crore. Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh maintains a modest number of projects, yet plans a staggering investment of Rs 8,035 crore for future expansions.

Data elucidates that despite fewer projects, Arunachal's strategic investment indicates potential growth. Collectively, approved projects amount to an impressive Rs 43,322 crore, while those underway total Rs 87,363 crore. In comparison, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura have a lesser share of the infrastructure pie.

Assam secures the largest allocation for highway development at Rs 5,329 crore, followed by Arunachal Pradesh at Rs 3,488 crore. Other states, including Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura, are allocated Rs 1,227 crore, Rs 1,508 crore, and Rs 514 crore, respectively.

Scheduled for completion by 2028, these projects encounter hurdles like land acquisition, forest and environmental clearances, and the financial health of contractors. Efforts are underway to streamline land acquisition processes, enhance project reviews, accelerate scope amendments, and foster coordination with state authorities to circumvent delays.
