In a significant political move, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday introduced a resolution in the state assembly opposing the central government's proposed delimitation of Parliamentary Constituencies by population. The Chief Minister's official statement highlighted concerns over potential discrimination against southern states.
Reddy referenced late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's warning that population-based delimitation could disrupt harmonious state relations, asserting that such criteria could compromise southern states' representation. He urged collective action if perceived injustices persist, during parliamentarian debates that threaten the South's representation dropping from 24% to 19%.
Highlighting the amended Constitution's changes in Jammu and Kashmir, Reddy exposed alleged partiality in the Centre's approach, stressing the urgency for the southern states to unify. He called for a concerted effort to pressure the Union Government, particularly emphasizing adherence to the AP Reorganization Act for Assembly constituency delimitation.
