The Delhi Legislative Assembly, under the leadership of BJP MLA Abhay Verma, set a precedent on Thursday by passing a motion to dispose of numerous long-pending cases from the Sixth and Seventh Legislative Assemblies. This motion was presented during an ongoing session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly and marks a significant move to address legislative backlog.

Addressing the Assembly, Verma emphasized the exceptional nature of invoking Rule 183, which was applied to examine the unfinished work of key committees. He noted that many cases had remained unresolved for years, and some had escalated to the High Court of Delhi, complicating their resolution.

The Assembly ultimately resolved to cease further action on these cases, including several court cases, thus considering them disposed of. The decision was hailed as a breakthrough in ensuring procedural efficiency and maintaining the legislative process, as highlighted in the session on March 27, 2025.
