The Indian government is ramping up efforts to ensure a consistent and reliable power supply as it braces for a peak demand of 277 GW predicted for 2025-26. As revealed by Union Minister Shripad Naik, these measures are part of a strategic plan to meet future energy needs.
Currently, the peak demand for 2024-25, which reached 249.856 GW, was successfully met with minimal discrepancy. The nation is positioning itself to handle the projected 2025-26 demand by leveraging existing facilities and ongoing infrastructural developments.
To manage this, authorities are advising power producers to maximize output, minimizing maintenance during high-demand times, and leveraging both domestic and imported coal. Additionally, plans are underway to expand coal-based capacity, supported by strong hydroelectric performance.
