India's Renewable Energy Surge: Aiming for 500 GW by 2030

India is confidently progressing towards its ambitious goal of reaching 500 GW in renewable energy capacity by 2030, bolstered by investment commitments totaling Rs 32 lakh crore, as stated by Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi at the Times Now Summit 2025.
Joshi revealed that renewable energy project bids have been announced for around 169 GW, with the country achieving 223 GW of non-fossil-fuel capacity, including 103 GW of solar and nearly 50 GW of wind energy. He also highlighted the government's support through viability gap funding for offshore wind projects.
Emphasizing confidence in meeting the 2030 target, Joshi remarked on the significant investment commitments and the enthusiastic response from banks, suggesting the profitability of the sector. A detailed workshop was held with leaders from various financial institutions to discuss opportunities in green project financing.
