The Telangana Legislative Assembly has voiced significant concerns over the projected delimitation exercise, emphasizing the absence of transparent dialogue with vital stakeholders. Spearheaded by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, the resolution demands fairness and inclusivity, urging extensive consultations with state governments, political parties, and all related stakeholders.
The resolution distinctly articulates the Assembly's apprehensions on the procedural transparency of the planned delimitation. It insists that the process must involve comprehensive collaborations with state governments and political entities to assure equitable representation. A central argument highlights that states with effective population control measures should not suffer reduced representation solely due to a smaller population.
The resolution further critiques the unrealized objectives of past constitutional amendments aimed at population stabilization. It proposes keeping the freeze on parliamentary seats while redrawing constituency boundaries to improve representation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and women. Moreover, a call to expand Telangana's Legislative Assembly seats from 119 to 153, as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act and census data, was made.
