The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) is embracing digital advancement by introducing Aadhaar authentication and eKYC for the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra registrations, as per a recent statement by the Ministry of Electronics and IT. This initiative seeks to simplify the registration process and elevate the pilgrimage experience.

The registration period for the 2025 Yatra began on March 20, and has already seen over 750,000 pilgrims registering online through the Aadhaar-based system. The UIDAI is supporting state efforts to improve citizen services, with both the 'Tourist Care Uttarakhand' app and the UTDB portal integrating this new technology.

This authentication method is projected to not only speed up the registration process by reducing paperwork but also assist in preventing duplicate registrations, allowing a greater number of pilgrims to participate. Additionally, Aadhaar-linked registration can enhance logistical planning, including accommodations and resource management, thereby improving overall safety and efficiency for pilgrims.
