In a groundbreaking move to enhance the efficiency of pilgrimage registrations, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has introduced Aadhaar Authentication and electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) for the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra. This significant advancement, reported by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, promises to revolutionize the pilgrimage experience by minimizing registration delays and improving the overall journey for devotees.
As of March 20, the opening date for the 2025 pilgrimage registrations, more than 750,000 devotees have embraced the Aadhaar-based online registration system. The initiative works in conjunction with UIDAI's efforts to support innovative solutions enhancing citizens' ease of living. The registration can be completed through the designated portal and the "Tourist Care Uttarakhand" mobile application, streamlining the process significantly.
This transition to Aadhaar-linked digital verification aims to eliminate duplicate registrations, allowing a higher number of pilgrims to participate. Continuation of offline registration at specific centers remains an option. Besides speeding up the registration process, the new system aids in effective planning and management of resources such as accommodations, transport, and medical support, ensuring efficient resource utilization and improved emergency readiness.
