Gujarat Leads Charge in Renewable Energy with Visionary Initiatives

Gujarat is making significant strides in renewable energy, with its installed capacity reaching 32,924 MW, accounting for 15% of India's total capacity. State Power Minister Kanu Desai reported these figures to the Legislative Assembly, emphasizing the state's leadership in solar and wind energy projects.
During budget discussions for the 2025-26 fiscal year, Desai noted that Gujarat's solar rooftop systems are installed in more than 3 lakh homes, a substantial 40% of India's count. Plans for the future include lignite-based power plants in Kutch, Bhavnagar, and Bharuch to harness available mineral reserves.
Further advancements include 12,584 MW of wind power projects and 18,125 MW of solar projects, representing significant portions of India's renewable energy sector. Additionally, consumer-focused initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Yojana offer relief in electricity bills through subsidies and incentives, underscoring the state's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
