On Wednesday, a widespread outage of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) led to significant disruptions in digital transactions across the country. Numerous users reported difficulties with the instant payment interface, as complaints soared on Downdetector, a platform that tracks service issues through user feedback.

The technical glitch, which lasted for approximately an hour, was eventually resolved by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), stabilizing the system. "NPCI had faced intermittent technical issues owing to which UPI had partial decline. The same has been addressed now and the system has stabilised. Regret the inconvenience," the payment regulator stated in a post on X.

UPI, an instant payment system developed by NPCI, operates on the IMPS infrastructure, enabling users to transfer money instantly between bank accounts without fees. Its widespread use for small payments and features like AutoPay enhance seamless transactions. The system's reliability remains crucial for millions of users nationwide.
