The Indian coal ministry will initiate the 12th round of commercial coal mine auctions on Thursday, offering 25 blocks for sale. This latest round includes 7 mines under the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015, and 18 mines under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy is set to attend the launch event as the chief guest, highlighting the significance of this auction round, which is expected to garner substantial interest from both domestic and international investors.
The auctions aim to bolster India's energy self-reliance and foster economic growth. Introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020, commercial coal mine auctions are designed to create a transparent, competitive market, harnessing India's vast coal resources sustainably and efficiently.
