South African maize farmers are expected to experience a significant boost in production for the 2024/2025 season, with a forecasted increase of over 13% compared to the previous year. This prediction comes from the government's Crop Estimates Committee (CEC).
The CEC's second summer crop forecast estimates the 2025 maize yield at 14.56 million metric tons, ascending from last season's 12.85 million metric tons. The prior estimation in February had projected a slightly lower total of 13.91 million metric tons.
This substantial harvest will consist of 7.70 million tons of white maize, designated for human consumption, and 6.86 million tons of yellow maize, predominantly used as animal feed.
