In a searing critique, Samajwadi Party MP from Sambhal, Zia ur Rehman Barq, has expressed skepticism over the distribution of the 'Saugat-e-Modi' kit, highlighting the need for equality and protection of Constitutional rights for all communities. Barq's remarks coincide with statements by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding the safety of Muslims within the state.
Barq, while agreeing with the safety assertion, pointed to events in Sambhal where five lives were lost, and issues of mob lynching linger. He emphasized that although safety is claimed, the frequent targeting of religious sentiments and places undermines these assurances. On November 24 last year, violence broke out during a survey of a 500-year-old protected mosque, exacerbating tensions.
Further criticizing the Saugat-e-Modi initiative, Barq lamented its lack of true significance unless equal treatment and Constitutional rights are guaranteed. The initiative, promoted by BJP's Minority Morcha, focuses on engaging the Muslim community during Ramzan and Eid to garner support. However, Yogi Adityanath insists that, in his state, the safety of all religions is paramount.
