MoD Aligns with Start-ups and SMEs to Boost Defence Innovation

The event facilitated discussions on technologies like AI and drones. A new MoU was also signed to enhance technological innovation for the Armed Forces using DST's R&D capabilities.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) connected with over 50 start-ups and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) this week, aiming to tackle challenges and identify opportunities within the defence sector, according to an official statement. Key figures, including Secretary (DP) Sanjeev Kumar, led talks to boost innovation and support these ventures.
Held at South Block, New Delhi, the sessions occurred on March 24 and 25, 2025, focusing on technologies like Quantum Tech, Electronic Warfare, and AI. Many participants were linked to Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), providing insights into the potential applications for both civilian and military use.
Simultaneously, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and the Department of Science and Technology. This collaboration seeks to leverage research capabilities to improve the Indian Armed Forces' self-reliance in critical technologies, supporting the vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat.'
